High-risk areas

Travellers that come from areas with a 14-day incidence of infection over 500 per 100,000 inhabitants (high-risk area) must stay in quarantine or isolation in a quarantine facility. This applies equally to citizens and residents of Iceland as well as others.

A. Countries with areas with 14-day incidence of infection over 700 per 100,000 inhabitants, or an 14-day incidence rate between 500 and 699 and a test positivity rate higher than 5%, or areas where sufficient information is not available.

Ban has been put on unnecessary trips from these countries. Passengers that have been in these areas in the past 14 days, and have a permitted reason to travel to Iceland, must without exceptions quarantine at a quarantine facility while awaiting results from the second test after arrival in the country.

B. Countries with areas with 14-day incidence of infection is 500 to 699 per 100,000 inhabitants but a test positivity rate below 5%, or where the 14-day incidence rate is below 500 but the test positivity rate is higher than 5%, or insufficient information is available.

Passengers arriving from these areas must quarantine at a quarantine facility unless the Chief Epidemiologist grants an exemption. Such an exemption must be applied for at least two days before arrival in Iceland. An exemption request is submitted by checking the option in pre-registration.

C. Other areas, infection rates less than 500 per 100,000 inhabitants and where the positivity rate is less than 5%

Those arriving from areas where the 14-day infection rate is below 500 cases per 100,000 can quarantine in a facility of their own choosing provided it fulfils the requirements of the Chief Epidemiologist for home quarantine.

D. Greenland and Faroe Islands

Travellers arriving from Greenland and Faroe Islands do not have to quarantine.

These rules apply from May 7th 2021 and will last for two weeks.
